The history of English language shows that the English language has been greatly influenced by successive foreign conquest the first major bring the Norman conquest. the duke of Norman by Wallan ii attacked and defeated king Harold in the battle of Hastings 1066, and this historical event had inversely influenced the socio political life and literature at England. With the conquest the Norman -French became the official language replacing English. Moreover, the conquest brought about a scenes centralized government in place of the loose authority of a Saxon-chief over factions of native people. The land owned by the English Celtic was mostly confiscated and distributed among the French and Norman shelters. Thus, the Norman conquest changed the face of English life and literature. The influenced of Norman conquest are enumerated below -
i) The Norman conquest influenced English Grammar heavily, bringing about, adverbs, pronouns, and auxiliaries.
ii) The conquest influenced the terminations. The relationships between words earlier shown by inflexions were shown by distinct words.
iii) A regular rhyme replaced the Anglo-Saxon alliteration.
iv) A new syntax was introduced, and it allowed inversions and ellipses only to a very limited extent. This change reduced poetic freedom but increased rationality.
v) New models of poetry such as love lyric, lays and fabliaux were introduced.
vi) New themes such as love patriotisms chivalry and humor were also popularized.
Besides, the Norman conquest introduced a long vocabulary of aristocratic nature English vocabulary. So we must say that the Norman conquest brought about money changes which helps English language or literature in its run up to modernization.
