William Blake
William Blake was a British artist and poet.He was born on 1757 and died on 1827. He is specially known as romantic poet and he was a romantic painter .Sometime he illustrated his own poems and he published his songs of innocence in 1789 and songs of experience in 1794. He also illustrated Dantes Divine Comedy.
Critical Analysis of the poem Lamb.
In this poem 'The Lamb' by William Blake presented a child's address to a Lamb. He puts several interrogations to know what does the Lamb know of itself .Does it know who has made it ,given its life, meadows to graze , and water to drink?Does it know also who has given comfortable wooly covering on its body, and a soft voice to echo pleasantly all over the valley ? He repeats his questions to know whether the Lamb is aware of its maker?
In the second stanza the child assures the Lamb that he will tell it of its creator , who is known as Lamb . He is gentle and tender calls himself a Lamb and became a little child himself . The child knows that the Lamb and he himself are one with him and called by his name . Finally he invokes God's blessing repeatedly for the Lamb.

Allusion-
Allusion is a belief and an indirect reference to a person
place, thing or idea of historical cultural political significance “ The Lamb”.
Symbolism -
The device symbolism referred the symbols to
signify the ideas and qualities by referring the symbolic meaning “Lamb and the
child both are the symbols of chastity and innocence.

is used to make the readers to think of their senses. The poet has used “sweetest,
clothing ,wooly ,bright He became a live child.

addresses a lamb and puts several questions to the lamb whether it knows of
itself. Does it know who has made it, given its life, meadows to graze water of
stream and comfortable wooly and also the soft voice?

child also make sure that he will tell it of its creator who has given all the
things to it. He referred that the creator it is kind and gentle, calls Himself
a lamb and became a child sometime and sometime called by his name. Finally he
invokes God’s blessing for the lamb.
The lamb poem structure-
The poem “The lamb” is basically written in trochaic metre.
This metre is normally found in child’s verse. The opening stanza and the
closing stanza ends with spondee .
The
pattern of repetition with different couplets emphasis the child’s riddle.

address to an innocent Lamb, which symbolically presents the God’s creation of
