    The history of English language is an interesting tale of word-formation by various methods. In the process of word making. The common English speaker have shown great skill in the formation of new and suitable words for the purpose of proper expression. One such process is back formation in which some part of the word, the ending has been omitted for the purpose of shortening. The English speaker resumed such ending as some derivative suffix and , so have left them out to create new words. In such words as - darkling, sidling, groveling, the ending - ling has been treated as the ending, and has been omitted to form such verbs as - 'dark' 'sidle' and 'grovel' . This process is called back formation some part of original word has been cut off with a wrong presumption to form a new word. The English language has been benefited immensely in terms of vocabulary by such word making process. This tendency has also given to the English speakers. The freedom to form new words for their daily uses. Following this pattern numerous words have been formed by deleting the ending - by form such words as lazy, puppy to form such verbs as laze, case, pup and many others like those. Hundreds of  words have been formed by subtracting such endings as - er, - ar, - or. Thus, back formation has sped up the process of shortening.
