- According to
some theorists, the 20th century can be divided in to two distinct
periods, one characterized by the modernism movement and the other by post
modernism. Some believe that post modernism was a response to modernism and
then consider them as two aspects of the same them as two aspects of the same
movement. There are same minor differences between modernism and post modernism
Their distinctions make clear thinking that led to these movement. The
difference highlights the difference in the approaches towards life.
Modernism is essentially based on a
utopian vision of human life and society and a belief progress or moving forward.
It refers to a global movement in society and culture that from the early
decades of the 29th century sought a new alignment with the
experience and valves of modern industrial life. Modernism was characterized by
a dramatic change of taught, where by human intellect sought to improve their
environment. There was a trend of improving every aspect of life by involving
science and technology into it.
Post modernism is a broad movement that developed in the mid
to late 20th century across philosophy
the arts, architecture, criticism, making departure from modernism. The term
generally applied to describe a historical era. In fact, post modernism is typically
defined by an attitude of scepticism, irony or rejection towards ideologies and
various tenets. More over this movement is associated with schools of thought
such as deconstruction and post structuralism .

modernism begun after the second world war, on using rational , logical means to gain knowledge
while post modernism denied the application of logical thinking. Rather the

non totalized and indeterminate state of knowledge.
The fundamental difference between modernism and postmodernism
is that modernist thinking is about the search of an abstract truth of life
while post modernist thinking is about the search of an abstract truth of life

abstract or Otherwise. Modernism attempts to construct a coherent world view
where as post modernism attempts to remove difference between high and low.

Modernist thinking believers in learning from the past experiences and trusts
the texts that narrate the past. On the other and post modernism thinking
defies any truth in the text narrating the past and renders it of no use in the
present time. modernist historians believer in going deep into a subject to
fully analyze it but this it not the case with postmodernist thinkers. Music
like Mozart, Beethoven which was appreciated during modernism became less popular
in the modernism era.
