1     1  . Justify the title of the poem asleep in the valley ?

        In the poem asleep in the valley Arthur Rimbaud presented a beautiful view a nature. It is a anti-war poem where he refer the futile picture of a war. The poem opens with the beauteous description  of valley, where a slow stream flows and the sun rays fall upon a valley from mountain top. The poet here gave a description of young soldier who is sleeping peacefully in lap of nature .

      His feet are among the flowers and his smile is like an infant children. The poet later discovered the soldier as a dead where we found two bullet wounds, so through the end of the poem the poet referred he is in eternal sleep  the soldier is the victim of war that has been made clear by the expression ‘ two red holes ‘. It exposes how inhumanly the soldier is victimised in the war . So the title of the poem Asleep in the valley is rightly given.

        In the poem asleep in the valley, the tenderness of the poet feels for dead soldier is obvious .Here the poet requested the nature to keep the soldier warm from growing cold .Actually cold is here symbolically referred dead , though he already knew it but he requested only to express his tenderness .

        Arthur Rimbaud in his poem asleep in the valley gave a beautiful picture of nature and represent various natural  elements to beautify the valley and its surrounding. The poet focus a on a panoramic view of the valley, from which he moves to the mountains and then the body of the soldier is the meadow. A small stream is flowing through the valley. There are various types of and bushes in that valley. He zooms in on the soldier’s feet which are among the flowers. He pillow is made of fern. Rimbaud waits until the last line of the poem to reveal that the soldier is dead. His delay in portraying the death of the solider is perhaps to heighten the effect and to shock the readers into seeing the negative impacts of war.

In the beginning of the poem, the poet has given a brief description of a beautiful valley where stream flows lowly, the sun-rays fill the hollow from the mountain top.

            Later, the poet gave a description of a young soldier who lies open mouthed in the valley, whose feet are among the flower, his smile is like an infant’s and one hand is upon his breast. Btu the reference of two red holes upon his body hardly presents the futility of war.

            This point show the Anti-war attitude of this poem According to the poet, actually the war is nothing but a massive loss of humanity which is mainly referred by the dead soldiers who is lying asleep in the beautiful valley for eternal time.
